Plácido Domingo has been announced as the closing artist for the iTunes festival, held at London's Roundhouse throughout September. The tenor, one of the most celebrated operatic stars of our day, will perform at the festival on September 30, bringing to an end a month of concerts by artists ranging from Beck to Kylie, Tony Bennett to Blondie.

The announcement follows iTunes's recent high-profile iPad advertising campaign featuring Esa-Pekka Salonen and Leila Josefowicz, and comes as confirmation of Apple's commitment to including classical as an integral part of the music of today. Another concert, on September 28, will feature violinist Nicola Benedetti, guitarist Miloš and trumpeter Alison Balsom.
